Lizzy and Col’s Cozy-As-Can-Be, In Home Minnesota Couples Photography Session
When couples decide to do a Minnesota couples photography session, there can be a lot of pressure to opt for a location in a big field because, well, it’s the thing to do. And we certainly have plenty of fields to go around, here in Minnesota.
While a stunning, wide open patch of land is always welcome (coming from a girl who LIVES for a good field frolic), switching it up and picking a location that is near and dear to your love story can make your photos feel that much more yours.
And for Lizzy and Col, that meant getting photos taken in their new home: completely in their element, entirely unfiltered, and so totally obsessed with each other.
It had my heart fit to burst and I cannot (and will not!) get over them.
Just your typical Tuesday night
There is literally so much to love about this Minnesota couples photography session with Lizzy and Col, but my absolute, complete and total, hands down favorite?
The fact that it is just so to Lizzy and Col. The fact that they might as well shout ‘Nights at home with you are my favorite thing in the world!’ from the literal rooftop. And the fact that I feel like I could peer into their house (in a totally not creepy, stalker-ish way) on any given night of the week and this is exactly what I would see.
I mean, ‘(they’re) in (their) (living) room, and it’s a typical Tuesday night,’ after all.
(If there’s one thing I’m going to do as a loyal Swiftie, it’s quote Taylor whenever I get the chance. And the music video for ‘You Belong With Me’ has lived rent free in my mind since the mere age of 12, so it’s only right it found a home in this blog post).
If you took a peek through their front windows, you would probably (okay, most definitely) find them on the couch having a candlelit snuggle sesh– glass of red wine in hand, debriefing about their day. Or you’d likely (I mean, absolutely) sneak a peek of the two of them dancing around in the soft light of their living room, a tangle of flyaways and limbs. Or you’d maybe (read: certainly) peer in to see two silhouettes jumping on the couch as though the couch itself was cloud nine– and feeling lighter than air because they’re just THAT in love.
Those seemingly mundane moments?
That’s what I’m going for, every time I look through my lens.
Because they aren’t really mundane at all. They are the moments that make up a lifetime of loving each other. And I feel so lucky that I get to tell that story through my camera.
The nuances make all the difference in your Minnesota couples photography session.
Another reason that I absolutely ADORE a cozy in-home Minnesota couples photography session is because I think of your home together as an extension of who you are. It’s a way to express yourself and add those subtle nuances that make your home exactly that… yours!
Maybe it’s the thrifted green lamp shade that you two found strolling through a St. Paul flea market on a Saturday morning (Lizzy has SUCH a good eye for thrifting, if you couldn’t tell). Or maybe it’s the way the tea kettle you found in a corner store on your dreamy European honeymoon (and worked really hard to fit into your suitcase because, well, obviously you HAD to!) is perched on the stove patiently waiting to brew your next mug. Or it could be the fact that the gauzy curtains you picked out together let the most playful, soft light into the living room where you’ve made so many memories already, and will make so many more soon.
All of those little touches make your photos that much more authentic and ensure we get allllllll of the details. (Because we love those around here).
Lizzy and Col also have the coolest access to their rooftop, which was one of my favorite parts of the session. There was something so intimate and cozy about it. It’s the place where Lizzy and Col will dream up their happily-ever-after together and stay up late talking about all sorts of things: reminiscing on saying ‘I do,’ dreaming of filling their house with the sound of future mini-me’s ever-so-unsteady bare feet pitter-pattering across the hardwood, and growing old together within the frame of their home.
And even though I ruined my favorite pair of pants scooting (a graceful scoot, mind you) over the shingles, every single second up on that roof was worth it. (I promise I’ll get over it… really, I will).
No stiff poses to be found here!
The other, and maybe even the most, important thing about Lizzy and Colin’s session was their ability to play and just BE because they were already so at ease within their own space.
Because of that, I could fade into the background, snapping the sweetness in their story frame for frame: catching the way Col looks at Lizzy like she very well might have hung the literal moon, documenting how Lizzy’s nose crinkles from cracking up at one of Col’s jokes, and photographing the way they just can’t keep their hands off each other.
It was so easy for them to be themselves in their own space. They didn’t need to warm up in front of the camera because it was like the camera was never even there.
Their home was their playground, and we went room to room finding ways to have a freaking ball. Bringing out the wine first thing (yes puh-leeeease!), jumping on the couch, playing with shadows in their bedroom… It was just plain FUN.
You can see just how warm and comfortable the atmosphere within their home really is. If you know me, you’ve probably heard me say it once or twice (or three times, shamelessly) before, but your love really is as organic as a trip to the farmers market, and it’s important that your photographs feel that way too.
In a few decades, I want you to be able crack open that worn photo album and feel that it’s a love worthy of standing on the tippy-tops of your tube-sock-clad toes for, a love so perfect that the only explanation for it must be that it’s simply not of this world, and a love that might as well be the star in a big-time movie montage.
And their Minnesota couples photography gallery is all the proof you really need that stiff poses should be checked at the front door.
Capturing Lizzy and Col was truly ev-er-y-thing. By choosing to get photos in their new home together, it created such natural, free-flowing photographs where they could be entirely themselves.
Lizzy and Col’s home is so much more than a few planks of wood and a bit of drywall held together by a couple of nails.
Home is wherever they’re together.
